As part of the initiative, AltaSea and Kearny Point will work together to support the development of sustainable aquaculture practices, renewable energy solutions, and cutting-edge blue and green technologies. The collaboration will take advantage of Kearny Point’s strategic infrastructure located close to the Port of Newark and NYC. One of AltaSea’s greatest advantages is its access to the deep ocean, vast research facilities, and marine life support systems.

“We are thrilled to partner with AltaSea on this exciting collaboration,” said Wendy Neu, CEO of Hugo Neu Corporation, the parent company of Kearny Point. “As two leaders in our respective fields, we share a commitment to promoting sustainability and driving innovation in the blue and green economy as well as educating and creating jobs in underserved communities.”

The collaboration will also focus on providing business assistance, support, and investment platforms to entrepreneurs and innovators in the blue and green economy sector. By connecting businesses with world-class research institutions, strategic partners, resources, and investors, the initiative will help to accelerate the development and adoption of sustainable solutions.

“AltaSea is excited to collaborate with Kearny Point on this initiative,” said Terry Tamminen, CEO of AltaSea. “Together, we aim to inspire positive change to make a sustainable and prosperous impact on our world for future generations.”

The collaboration between AltaSea and Kearny Point represents an exciting opportunity to drive real change and create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.

With this partnership, AltaSea, Hugo Neu, and NY/NJ Baykeeper have launched the Ocean Pathways High School Research Mentorship Program. This innovative program aims to provide high school students with hands-on research experience and mentorship opportunities in the fields of marine biology, sustainability, and environmental conservation.

As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to work alongside leading scientists, educators, and environmental advocates at AltaSea, Hugo Neu, and NY/NJ Baykeeper. They will engage in field work, data collection, and analysis, and gain valuable insights into the challenges facing our oceans and the environment at large.

The Ocean Pathways program is designed to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders in the fields of marine biology, sustainability, and environmental conservation. It will equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to succeed in these critical areas, while also fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world and our role in protecting it.

“AltaSea’s collaboration with Hugo Neu and NY/NJ Baykeeper will launch this exciting pilot program,” said Tamminen. “Together, we can inspire and empower the next generation of environmental leaders through education, while also driving meaningful progress towards a more equitable future.”

The Ocean Pathways program is open to high school students in the Los Angeles and New York/New Jersey areas. Applications for the program will be accepted on a rolling basis.
