SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a reliable and dedicated Custodian to maintain our facilities. We take great pride in the external and internal appearance of our facility and see it as a reflection of our business, so we expect our Custodian to take the same pride in their work. Our ideal candidate is careful and thorough, cleaning and tidying the premises with great care and an eye for detail.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The list that follows is not intended to be comprehensive; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of the position. Incumbents may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks

• Performs day-to-day custodial functions.
• Sanitize and clean designated building areas, main entrances, conference area, and welcome area by sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing and wiping common touched areas throughout large facility.
• Maintain an inventory of break room supplies and cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Notify Facilities Manager of noted deficiencies or need for repairs.
• Maintain and sanitize kitchen, restrooms, conference rooms, office spaces, common areas, food service areas, disposing of outside debris around facility, water plants, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
• Alert management of any site disruptions such as leaks, pests, broken windows, major loitering, and any potential hazards etc.
• Make regular inspection tours of the campus facilities noting unusual occurrences.
• Observe and report hazardous conditions to management.
• Watch for trespassers, fire, or other circumstances which could lead to loss or damage to property and equipment.
• Unlock buildings as scheduled and ensure all doors are locked as scheduled
• Assist with special events set-up and breakdowns.
• Make multiple rounds daily to pick up and discard trash and debris.
• Empty all trash receptacles inside and out, including offices.
• Note and report any malfunctions of equipment.
• Clean all spills.
• Submit requests for repairs or maintenance.
• Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
• Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Report restroom inventory to the supervisor to maintain adequate supplies on hand. Restock the supplies as needed.
• Sanitize, clean, and maintain restrooms throughout the day as scheduled and/or as necessary, including sanitize/ wipe sinks, mirrors, urinals, toilets, walls, floor, mop.
• Empty all trash bins in restrooms, common areas at the facility and main large trash container area outside.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or senior staff.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• High School Diploma or equivalent GED
• Basic Mathematical Skills
• Knowledge and prior experience in using standard sanitizing, cleaning methods and procedures observing all safety protocols
• Experience with using industrial cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, cleaning solutions and agents
• Understanding of safety protocols such as disposal of chemicals and other hazardous items
• Requires heavy physical work; lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 30 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 80%) of job. Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours every day.
• Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time
• Basic computer knowledge, internet searching, emailing, communications, printing.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness standard.
• Some professional work experience as custodian, janitor, or a similar role a plus
• Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• 3 years of Janitorial / Custodial work

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Works primarily in a warehouse setting at the AltaSea campus in San Pedro. The site is subject to noise, dust, temperature fluctuations as well as other warehouse conditions.
• The position involves working occasional evenings as well as all weekends
• Hours are 7AM to 3PM Wednesday to Sunday
• The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel locally on occasion
• Competitive salary commensurate with experience; benefits include paid vacation, medical/dental/vision insurance, life and long-term disability insurance.
PAY RANGE
$19 to $24 Per hour

POSITION TITLE: AltaSea Seasonal Instructor
REPORTS TO: Education Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt – Part time Position (~18 hours per week as needed)
DATE: April 2023

SUMMARY: Altasea at the Port of Los Angeles is seeking a Seasonal Instructor who will report directly to the Education Manager. This position will teach both in-house and externally at schools and youth organizations for AltaSea’s K-12 Project Blue education program. This position will provide educational instruction to 7-12 grade students. A passion for science, the ocean and ocean conservation is necessary. Pay is $27-$32 an hour.

DUTIES: Provide in person and occasionally virtual instruction to students K-12 in school classrooms, at afterschool youth organzations and at the AltaSea campus.

  • Develop and execute education classes that demonstrate clear impact towards AltaSea’s goals of educating students for ocean sector careers. Experience teaching STEM related topics such as robotics, 3D printing and drone building.
  • Work closely with the Education Manager to ensure alignment of the education programs with state content standards, relevant metrics, and workforce development programs.
  • Collaborate with and convene key partners, including volunteers, nonprofits, agencies, corporate and public sector leaders and foundations to support program goals.
  • Cultivate relationships with and among education and community partners, donors, and the public sector to strengthen dialogue, learning, collaboration, and action related to AltaSea’s education and workforce development strategy.
  • Assist and update grantwriter with current programming and reporting.
  • Represent AltaSea’s education program at internal and external meetings, convenings and conferences.
  • Work with AltaSea’s Communications team to effectively communicate the impact of the education programs to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; Classroom experience teaching STEM related subjects, robotics, 3D printing, drone building preferred.
  • Direct experience in the field of education, with knowledge around education state standards and program tracking and assessment.
  • Curriculum development experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • An understanding of education and job skills training issues related to underresourced communities.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills, adept at speaking to teachers and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all organizational levels within a diverse environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work will be performed at external locations (schools) and at the Altasea campus in a warehouse, wharf and/or floating dock setting.
  • Subject to repetitive motion in typing on a computer keyboard and detailed vision in viewing computer monitor.
  • The position may involve working occasional evenings and weekends.
