AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles Awarded $2.1M Natural Resources Agency Grant

AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is pleased to announce that it competed for and has been awarded a 2.1 million dollar grant from the State of California for the Visitors Center portion of the Center of Discovery at AltaSea. Located at Berth 57, the Center of Discovery will be a state-of-the-art research facility and future home to the Southern California Marine Institute (SCMI). The source of the State funds is the voter approved Proposition 68 for competitive grants that protect, restore, and enhance California’s cultural, community, and natural resources.

Today, the California Natural Resources Agency issued the announcement describing 21 grants for a total of $37 million. Cultural, Community & Natural Resources Grant Program

AltaSea’s award is $2,132,559.

“We are honored to have been awarded these funds through a rigorous and competitive process,” said Tim McOsker, CEO of AltaSea, “and we look forward to returning the value of these bond funds to the People of the State of California through a beautifully designed and curated visitor experience within the Center of Discovery in the urban ocean of the Port of Los Angeles.”
