Dear AltaSea Community,

We hope that you and your loved ones are preparing for a safe and healthy holiday season.

This past year and in response to calls for justice, AltaSea updated its mission to highlight inclusivity and, as a part of that, a commitment to inspire the next generation for a more sustainable, just, and equitable world. This focus meant an increased and expanded outreach to those historically underrepresented in STEM fields.

In fact, AltaSea recently hosted two webinars featuring panels of all female scientists and ocean experts. The first one brought together three of the world’s top ocean explorers to discuss their own efforts in trailblazing ocean discovery and conservation.

The second one focused on female scientists and the impacts that climate change has on the ocean, ocean ecosystems, and the innovations that are leading the 21st century approach to finding solutions.

To continue this momentum, all live chats and webinars for the first half of 2021 will feature women in these exciting fields.

Our first webinar scheduled for January 6, 2021 will focus on the importance of ocean economy and sustainability incubators like AltaSea, and the importance of giving to organizations dedicated to finding 21st century solutions to one of the most pressing issues in the world today: climate change. Make sure to sign up and join Giving Pledge Philanthropist Melanie Lundquist and Los Angles City Councilmember Joe Buscaino for this deep blue discussion.

We are also honored to tell you that AltaSea recently received a United Nations Association 2020 Global Citizen Award. The USA/UNA forum committee recognized AltaSea for its vision, mission, and alignment with the United Nations sustainable development goals. In October, our CEO accepted the award on AltaSea’s behalf and participated in a panel about AltaSea and United Nations shared vision for a sustainable future.

As you can see, even as the year winds down, AltaSea continues to work towards our vision of an ocean that will sustain future generations in an equitable society. We are excited for the next year and other announcements we will make.

Please remember AltaSea in your end of year giving. The ocean needs AltaSea, and AltaSea needs YOU.
