SUMMARY: Altasea at the Port of Los Angeles is seeking a Field Trip Coordinator and Seasonal Instructor who will report directly to the Education Director. This position will coordinate Field Trips for AltaSea’s K-12 Ocean STEM education program. This position will teach both in-house and externally at schools and youth organizations for AltaSea’s K-12 Ocean STEM education program. A passion for science, the ocean and ocean conservation is necessary. This position will be a key role in connecting our education programs to workforce development opportunities in the Blue Economy. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The list that follows is not intended to be comprehensive; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of the position. DUTIES: Coordinate, manage and execute Field Trips for AltaSea’s Ocean Pathways program and provide in person and occasionally virtual instruction to students K-12 in school classrooms, at afterschool youth organization’s and at the AltaSea campus.
• Develop and execute education classes that demonstrate clear impact towards AltaSea’s goals of educating students for ocean sector careers. Experience teaching Marine Biology or Aquaculture preferred.
• Collaborate with AltaSea’s tenants and local formal and informal educational organizations to manage and execute field trips to AltaSea’s campus for 1000+ participants each year to achieve AltaSea’s goals of educating for ocean pathway careers.
• Collect program information for tracking and reporting of key performance and evaluation of program effectiveness.
• Work closely with the Education Director to ensure alignment of programs with state content standards, relevant metrics, and workforce development programs.
• Collaborate with and convene key partners, including volunteers, nonprofits, agencies, corporate and public sector leaders and foundations to manage and develop mentorship, internship and filed trip opportunities at AltaSea.
• Cultivate relationships with and among education and community partners, donors, and the public sector to strengthen dialogue, learning, collaboration, and action related to AltaSea’s education and Ocean Pathways strategy.
• Collaborate, assist and update grant writers with current and future programming and reporting.
• Represent AltaSea’s Ocean Pathways and education programs at internal and external meetings, convenings and conferences.
• Collaborate with AltaSea’s Communications team to effectively communicate the impact of the Ocean Pathway education programs to internal and external stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor’s degree preferred; student supervision experience preferred
•Direct experience in the field of education, with knowledge around education state standards and program tracking and assessment.
•Direct experience in K-12 and higher education experience preferred.

•An understanding of education and job skills training issues related to under resourced communities.
•Exceptional analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
•Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
•Strong public speaking skills, adept at speaking to teachers and students.
•Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all organizational levels within a diverse environment.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is essential.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work will be performed at the AltaSea campus in a warehouse, wharf and/or floating dock setting and at external locations (schools and colleges).
•Subject to repetitive motion in typing on a computer keyboard and detailed vision in viewing computer monitor.
The position may involve working occasional evenings and weekends.
