AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is proud to announce its fifth annual Blue Hour fundraiser, an event that connects science, culture, and community by combining art and technology to tell the story of and raise awareness for the emerging blue economy.
Blue Hour: Ocean Songs will feature the sounds of the ocean, curated by renowned music producer Joel Sill, serving as executive music producer for the evening. Sill is known for his work on Forrest Gump, Terminator 3, Blade Runner, and many other box office hits.

The funds raised by Blue Hour supports AltaSea’s Ocean STEM, which provide educational programs to students throughout Los Angeles, giving them an opportunity to learn about the vast opportunities within the blue economy – from marine conservation to underwater robotics and clean energy.

Innovation Award
An innovation award signifies not only the recognition of the recipient’s ingenuity but also serves as a testament to their ability to drive progress and solve complex challenges.
AltaSea acknowledges that our campus is located on the traditional lands and waters of the Tongva People; specifically our location is historically the aweeshkone xaa Chaawvetam (Village of Chaawvenga). We also acknowledge the traditional lands and waters of the Chumash, Tataviam, Serrano, Cahuilla, Juaneno and Luiseno Peoples throughout Southern California, where AltaSea partners reside. We pay respect to the traditions, knowledge, past and present of these Indigenous Peoples.
Host Committee
This year’s host committee features an impressive lineup of oceans icons, world-renowned artists, and local community leaders:
- Ashlan & Phillippe Cousteau, oceanographers and environmental activists;
- Bob Ballard, Titanic discoverer and ocean explorer;
- Sylvia Earle, famed oceanographer who was the first person to walk the ocean floor solo;
- Lauren Johnson, community leader and part of West Harbor’s development team; and
- Pete Sellars, award-winning opera director
