The Blue Sustainable Economy Alliance (BlueSEA) is a business support program for innovators who are scaling businesses in ocean industries. Through the BlueSEA program, AltaSea connects businesses with world class research institutions, strategic business partners, funders and investors, key government regulators and the press for maximum market adoption and traction.

BlueSEA generates equitable economic growth by recruiting and supporting partners in our innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, develops coalitions to champion emerging ocean technologies that mitigate climate change, and supports blue businesses through connection with accelerators, incubators, and funders.

Ocean Career Pathways Program

The purpose of the internship program is to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to explore blue economy careers by matching them with partners who have positions that align specifically with the student’s interest and/or major of study.

Internships allow students to find new educational paths or solidify their pursuits.

Partnerships with CA College Corps and Ready to Succeed bring in fellows from economically disadvantaged communities and allow them to gain work experience that directly ties back to their educational goals. West Los Angeles College’s “Every Career is a Climate Career” program is like CA College Corps in that it takes students of various educational backgrounds and provides them with the option to explore careers that are specifically targeting solutions to climate change.

My internship at AltaSea has been education and organization focused. I have gotten to create learning activities for visiting students, helped to organize field trips so that our partners can teach kids about their work, and created itineraries for various events AltaSea has hosted. Being able to facilitate the spreading of AltaSea’s vision and mission has been a wonderful experience.

I’ve learned that plastics are labeled 1-7 as a way to differentiate the grade of plastic it is and if it’ll be able to melt or not. Plastics 1 and 2 are the plastics that get recycled while all the other’s end up in the landfills, causing more pollution since plastics are not biodegradable. I also learned how to screen print shirts which I wasn’t expecting at all! It’s been fun and interesting learning these different skills.
