The Blue Hour: A spectacular evening!

On 10.10.2020, AltaSea hosted The Blue Hour, a fundraising drive-in featuring special recorded messages from Frankie Faison and Dame Helen Mirren; footage of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park filmed by the Schmidt Ocean Institute; the U.S. debut of a pivotal section of Peter Sellars’ production of Mozart’s Idomeneo; and a unique art installation projected over the USS Iowa by artists Mason Rothschild and Annie Sperling, using Esri ocean data.

Awards were given to Dr. Robert Ballard, President of Ocean Exploration Trust (AltaSea Explorer Award); Dr. Dawn Wright, Chief Scientist at Esri (AltaSea Innovation Award); and Avantika Vijesh, a student in the Torrance School District (AltaSea NextGen Award).

Over 200 vehicles filled with enthused guests witnessed this one night only gathering. Between celebratory honking horns, stunning visuals, and educational videos, AltaSea continues to prove that audacious ideas have a home at the Port of Los Angeles. If you were unable to attend or want to watch again, click here.
