LOS ANGELES (April 8, 2021) – Tim McOsker, CEO of AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles, was tapped to join the regional advisory board of the Center for Sustainability Solutions Council at the University of Southern California (USC). The USC Center for Sustainability Solutions serves as a global partner to international agencies, national and local governments, corporations, and NGOs in developing solutions to the most pressing urban environmental challenges.

McOsker is an attorney with more than three decades of experience in government, regulatory, and land development matters. As the CEO of AltaSea, he leads the public-private institute at the Port of Los Angeles to accelerate scientific collaboration, advance an emerging blue economy through business innovation and job creation, and inspire the next generation to tackle climate change through ocean preservation. The Los Angeles Times has called the 35-acre AltaSea campus a “sprawling center for new eco-friendly business.”

“I’m honored to join this distinguished board as we work together to tackle climate change within our urban environment,” McOsker said. “The group features some of the top scholars and leaders in their fields – I’m looking forward to collaborating with each of them working towards a more sustainable future.”

The Advisory Board is chaired by David Abel, publisher of The Planning Report and chairman of the VerdeXchange, and members include Bill Allen, President & CEO of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation as well as Lauren Faber O’Connor, the Chief Sustainability Office of the City of Los Angeles as well as Daniel Doimo, President of Blackberry-Cylance.

The Center contributes to the advancement of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the grand challenges for engineering. Their mission is to advance the application of basic science and technological solutions to specific urban contexts, with an eye on developing practical solutions and sound public policy for a more sustainable and equitable future.

“We are excited about the potential of what we can achieve together,” Center Co-Directors Mahta Moghaddam and Detlof von Winterfeldt said in a joint statement. “The new Regional Advisory Board will have an important role in advancing our mission to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit of our sustainability scholars and engage with stakeholders.”
