Dear AltaSea Community,
As we enter the holiday season, AltaSea would like to thank you for your support of our mission. It has been a unique year, to say the least, and we are grateful for all our stakeholders, students, partners, and collaborators.
2020 has also been a year of expansion: new partners, including University of California, San Diego; Scripps Institution of Oceanography; Oregon State University; and, the Center for the Blue Economy have joined our mission. 2020 has also brought new tenants to the AltaSea campus, including Montauk Technologies and Maritime and Environmental Training Trust, with others finalizing sublease agreements by the end of the year.
The success of Project Blue also has engaged new students in various AltaSea programs.
Moreover, as the needs of the surrounding school districts have changed, Project Blue has literally entered the classroom with live, virtual instruction by educators through Expand LA, a coalition of Los Angeles based STEM organizations in over 300 classrooms this fall semester. AltaSea has provided a resource that gives the next generation a window into Blue Economy science and innovation, and we are proud to have reached 10,000 people this past summer.
To show our gratitude, AltaSea has developed our first e-book as a gift. This e-book includes the weekly posts from our blog, Here’s the Blue Deal, with topics ranging from the ocean economy to ocean science to opportunities for further study. We have curated this series as a holiday gift for you.
While 2020 is ending, the changes it has brought on will remain, and AltaSea will continue to adapt and work to solve them. Please remember AltaSea in your end of year giving. Remember the ocean needs AltaSea, and AltaSea needs YOU.
