ATLAS Project Posters

Advancing Technology Leadership and Access through Service (ATLAS) is an immersive experiential community engaged learning project at USC Viterbi School of Engineering offering opportunities for students to apply content knowledge to authentic projects designed to cultivate human-centric leadership in technology and broaden participation and access to the field.

The ATLAS Project framework consists of three core principles:

  • People not PowerPoints pedagogy activates learning.
  • A commitment to Scaling through Sharing replicable models with community partners and the public for broad social impact.
  • A practice of Ethics in Action instills values of justice, equity, civility, and compassion.

Our 2024-2025 ATLAS Project, “Kelp Kits for Kids,” centers on sustainability, social impact, and societal readiness for climate change and emerging sustainability focused technologies. Through partnership with AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles, we explore the burgeoning field of Regenerative Aquaculture and the emerging industries developing ocean related sustainable food sources with minimal environmental impact.

Science. Technology. Engineering. Art. Math.

Are you ready for a science adventure? Follow us to the STEAM clubhouse, where we can ask questions, explore new places, and meet real-life scientists. Together, we’ll discover STEAM all around us and learn ways we can be a part of it too!

Room to Read’s STEAM-Powered Careers collection presents 10 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics-themed books to inspire first through third graders about the wide variety of groundbreaking and exciting STEAM careers that they can start exploring right now. Created in collaboration with scientists, staff and faculty from the University of Southern California (USC), the collection explores topics ranging from polar science to gastroenterology to nanotechnology and more.

Books feature a trio of fun characters and their animal friends, with each title illustrating a day in the life of a working USC scientist, many of whom come from underrepresented communities in STEAM. Each book highlights the present and future of a unique field and offers resources and more information for classroom use. The collection will be printed and distributed starting with communities surrounding USC in 2022.
