Hailed as a game-changer for environmental study of the ocean, Los Angeles port officials Monday unveiled final plans for a $500 million marine research center on a 100-year-old pier along San Pedro’s waterfront.
“It’s going to transform the Port of Los Angeles from a place that moves cargo to a place that not only moves cargo but also moves ideas,” said Geraldine Knatz, the port executive director whose vision it was to create the center.
