From Earth Month to Every Month

Scaling Ocean Climate Solutions Globally

This Earth Month, AltaSea is reflecting on the important role global partnerships play in fighting climate change. Last year, AltaSea launched the Deep Blue Decade Initiative in order to support ocean-based climate action in underserved coastal communities worldwide. In partnership with national governments, local organizations, and sustainable development partners, progress is already underway on blue economy centers in Jordan, Tanzania, Tonga, and Indonesia.

These regional blue economy hubs will fight climate change in locally-relevant ways: Indonesia and Tanzania’s programs will primarily focus on regenerative kelp aquaculture, while Jordan will champion coral restoration in partnership with Philippe and Ashlan Cousteau’s Voyacy Regen.

Sustainable aquaculture, marine carbon dioxide removal, and ocean-based renewable energy are shared focuses of all Deep Blue Decade partner sites. Future-proof workforce development and STEM education will also be cornerstones—preparing young people to inherit the fight against climate change.

AltaSea is also collaborating with existing blue economy organizations. An exciting new partnership between AltaSea and World Trade Center Barcelona’s blue economy innovation hub—BlueTechPort—will connect blue economy stakeholders across continents in order to accelerate market-readiness of ocean-based climate solutions.

Every day, but especially on Earth Day, it’s important to remember that the scientists and innovators on the frontlines of fighting climate change and protecting our oceans are constantly moving forward. They know that there is too much at stake, and they know we have the power to create a future where humans live in balance with the planet, instead of destroying it.

Earth Day is also a great time to remember that you don’t have to be a scientist to join the fight against climate change; there are many ways to take action. We invite you to celebrate Earth Day by making a tax-deductible donation to AltaSea’s UrgentSEA campaign—because every contribution matters.

AltaSea remains committed to supporting science-based solutions to climate change—solutions that both protect the oceans and benefit local communities. But we can’t do it without your support.
