AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is dedicated to accelerating scientific collaboration, advancing an emerging blue economy through business innovation and job creation, and inspiring the next generation, all for a more sustainable, just and equitable world.

 

SUMMARY

AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is seeking a dynamic Business Hub Manager to lead our initiatives which support our growing community of blue companies. This role serves as the central point of connection between our organization, tenant businesses, and strategic partners in the blue economy ecosystem. The ideal candidate will bring experience from roles within the accelerator, incubator, or investment community and will be responsible for managing key partnerships and executing high-impact programs that advance AltaSea’s mission as a leading hub for ocean-based innovation. This position reports to the Director of Economic and Workforce Development.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The list that follows is not intended to be comprehensive; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of the position.  Incumbents may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks

 

·         Oversee, update and expand information management systems 

·         Coordinate department economic development projects, ranging in scope from internal platform creation, networking events and related industry gatherings  

·         Build meaningful relationships with tenants and business advisory partners 

·         Manage internal and external communications related to business hub activities 

·         Collaborate across internal teams on strategic initiatives 

·         Provide support for grant writing efforts 

·         Travel as needed for conferences and industry events 

 

 

Primary Interactions:

•          Frequent contact with AltaSea colleagues

•          May have periodic interaction with AltaSea Trustees, and senior staff or contractors

•          Frequent contact with regulatory & permitting entities such as POLA, Water Board etc.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Proficiency in program management systems and CRM platforms

·         Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments

·         Knowledge of grant writing processes and funding mechanisms

·         Experience working with startups, small businesses, and/or innovation ecosystems

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economic Development, Entrepreneurship, Finance or related field 

·         3+ years of experience in a related roles 

·         Proven track record in relationship management 

·         Experience with project management 

·         Event planning and execution capabilities 

·         Preferred: 

·         Experience in economic development or workforce development programs 

·         Background in the blue economy or ocean science 

·         Previous experience with entrepreneur engagement  

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

–  Works primarily in a warehouse setting at the AltaSea campus in San Pedro. The site is subject to noise, dust, temperature fluctuations as well as other warehouse conditions.

–  The position involves working occasional evenings and weekends

–  The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel locally on occasion
