Los Angeles, Calif. (November 13, 2024) – AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles, the nation’s leading hub for the blue economy, is pleased to announce that Jenny Krusoe, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, has been named to The Ocean Opportunity Lab’s (TOOL) Global 500 List, a collection of the top 500 female founders in the ocean & energy industries, She joins famed oceanographer Sylvia Earle and Wendy Schmidt, founder of the Schmidt Ocean Institute, on the list. Krusoe is one of AltaSea’s founders and has been a member of AltaSea’s leadership team since the innovative ocean sustainability and marine science campus was first conceived.
“Jenny is an incredible leader who has been the catalyst that has taken AltaSea from an idea to reality, and she is well-deserving of this global recognition,” AltaSea President and CEO Terry Tamminen said. “Her leadership continues to guide AltaSea as it matures and helps innovators throughout the blue economy flourish. She has been crucial to AltaSea’s success since Day 1 and is the inspirational leader of our rapidly growing team.”
TOOL, founded by Norwegian entrepreneur Birgit Liodden, is a global changemakers community for ocean and renewable energy innovators. Based in Oslo, TOOL is a global and digital community that connects ocean entrepreneurs and companies with established industry resources. The list recognizes a diverse list of female founders in traditionally male-dominated industries and celebrates their strong efforts to drive change and put their companies and their work on the radar.
A California native born and raised on the shores of the San Francisco Bay, Krusoe has earned a national reputation as a nonprofit executive with expertise in public-private partnerships and financially sustainable strategic planning. She has raised hundreds of millions of dollars through foundation, corporate, and government grants for both environmental and ocean-focused institutions, art organizations, and human-service agencies.
Krusoe joined AltaSea in 2014 and has overseen the nonprofit’s landmark 50-year lease agreement with the Port of Los Angeles, fundraising efforts, and the campus’ $30 million renovation efforts. In 2021, she was the recipient of the City of STEM Icon Award for her work in developing pathways to well-paying careers in the blue economy. Krusoe also previously received the Spirit of Los Angeles Award, one of the city’s highest mayoral honors.
“AltaSea is a bold and audacious idea,” Krusoe said. “We are very serious about our mission to create the world’s greatest and most innovative campus for ocean research, business, and education and we know that the ocean is our best hope to solve some of the planet’s biggest challenges, such as climate change, energy supply, and global food security.”
