AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is proud to announce its fifth annual Blue Hour fundraiser, an event that connects science, culture, and community by combining art and technology to tell the story of and raise awareness for the emerging blue economy.

Blue Hour: Ocean Songs will feature the sounds of the ocean, curated by renowned music producer Joel Sill, serving as executive music producer for the evening. Sill is known for his work on Forrest Gump, Terminator 3, Blade Runner, and many other box office hits.

MillerButler is a grassroots multifaceted culinary organization based out of LA, that aims to enhance quality of life or “Dolce Vita” within our community and globally, through a unique set of culinary experiences and are honored to serve one of our dishes, wood fired pizza at Blue Hour.

The mission of the L.A. Choral Lab is to deliver unique, transformative performances of choral repertoire, to advocate for living composers and the music they write, to provide musical and educational enrichment to young choral artists, and to reach out to the community in a way that creates new lovers of choral music.

Check out the Artists

This Blue Hour will feature work from:

  • Kim Abeles
  • Taylor Griffith
  • Larry Lubow
  • Nova
  • Taiji Terasaki

Kim Abeles

Kim Abeles’ art crosses disciplines and media to explore biography, geography, and environment. She has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for the Visual Arts, California Community Foundation and Pollack-Krasner Foundation. She has created artwork with a unique range of collaborators including California Bureau of Automotive Repair, California Science Center, Department of Mental Health, and natural history museums in California, Colorado and Florida.

Taylor Griffith

Taylor Griffith is a multi-disciplinary artist from Oakland, California. Currently, he is living and working in Los Angeles. He received his BA in photography with a minor in studio art from the University of La Verne. Taylor recently graduated from the Graduate Art MFA program at Art Center College of Design. His work calls into question the relationships between natural systems and changing human interactions with the landscape. Taylor takes a multi-medium approach to the interdisciplinary nexus of art and ecology.

Larry Lubow

For over 30 years, Larry Lubow has dedicated himself as a sculptor and collector to explore the relationship between art, design, nature, and architecture. An alum of Alfred University, he began his artistic journey working with clay and metal, exhibiting his creations in galleries and design showrooms across the globe. Most recently, at Yard 227 and House 1002, Larry has fused design, materials, and vintage treasures to craft new works. Now, he is excited to embark on a new venture—the creation of the Bone Yard at AltaSea.

Taiji Terasaki

Based in Honolulu, Hawai’i, Japanese American artist, Taiji Terasaki, creates innovative photographic and sculptural forms and immersive, large-scale installations. For Terasaki, art is the medium to explore our interconnectedness, the ecological promise of rewilding, the fragility of the natural environment, and the textures of the human experience. From the global impact of climate change to immigration and nature’s capacity for regeneration, Terasaki inspires us to believe in our power to engage in the conservation, preservation, and restoration of our planet and our creative spirit.

Nova West

Nova West is an award-winning filmmaker, published photographer, creative artist, and environmental educator currently based out of Los Angeles, California. As a National Geographic Explorer and member of the International League of Conservation Photographers, they are dedicated to crafting a more diverse and holistic landscape for wildlife storytelling. Their passion lies in exploring our natural world and finding creative ways to lift as they climb.
