AltaSea Receives Strong Support from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti

Dear Board Trustees:

I write in strong support of AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles. This project presents a critical opportunity for Los Angeles to create a sustainable, prosperous future for the city and ocean exploration.

AltaSea is the perfect manifestation of Los Angeles’ historic role as a global hub of innovation and economic transformation. Innovations in Southern California have advanced our knowledge of space, and, with that knowledge, created industries that employed millions. AltaSea holds the same potential by opening a path to the unknown wonders of the ocean, and the promise of discoveries that will help us address the challenges of a sustainable food supplies, sustainable energy, and climate change.

I am also excited about impact AltaSea can have on the economy of Los Angeles. AltaSea has the potential to be a growing source of new and diverse employment opportunities for residents, and will serve as an inspiration for Los Angeles learners of all ages to advance education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
